It is presently contested by eighteen clubs each season, but since 1965 only four have won the title - AFC Ajax with 29 has won the most titles, PSV Eindhoven is next with 21, and Feyenoord follows with 14. However, the 2008-09 title is held by AZ Alkmaar, who also won in 1981.
